It was a Kawasaki ZX-10R that showed me just how fast a literbike actually was. It was 2008, and I was reviewing that year's crop of literbikes, swapping back and forth between machines on a ride on California's State Route 76. I was on the Kawasaki when I came to the end of Route 76, where it dead-ends into Route 79. I turned left and thought, I'm just going to pin this thing, run it to redline in each gear, and see what happens. I ran it through first gear, through second up to redline, shifted into third and looked down. The speedometer read 130 mph. And I thought, I've still got four gears to go ...

Kawasaki has always pushed the envelope when it came to performance streetbikes. The Z1, the original Ninja 900, the first ZX1000, the H2 supercharged machines - always it's been about performance. The ZX-10R is the latest and ultimate expression of the sportbike as created by Kawasaki.
